National Trust Sutton Hoo

The exceptional discovery of the Anglo Saxon boat burial site of Sutton Hoo is known to many. A visit to the newly presented Exhibition Centre explains life in Anglo Saxon England in careful, well-illustrated detail with accompanying activities, and introduces the Burial mound where the boat was found. Tranmer House that once was home to Mrs Pretty, who instigated the 1939 excavation, has many accessible archive records of the dig itself. A visit covers details of the boat and the dig with fascinating details; the learning service provides a warm welcome and well organised explanation of this historic event.
